Alumni Spotlight: Isabelle Trujillo

Isabelle Trujillo, an inspiring alumna of Arrupe Jesuit High School, embodies the values of resilience, community, and lifelong learning. Raised in the Denver metro area, Isabelle attended middle school at St. Pius X in Aurora, Colorado. Her journey began through the influence of another family whose children attended Arrupe and the recruitment efforts of Mrs. Orozco. Isabelle’s family prioritized Catholic education, combined with the unique opportunity of the Corporate Work Study Program, made it an ideal choice. After interviewing with faculty and staff, Isabelle felt a deep connection to the school, recognizing it as a place where she could thrive both personally and professionally.

One of Isabelle’s most memorable moments at Arrupe took place during an outdoor adventure retreat at Genesee. Nervous about making new friends, she found herself standing atop a twenty-foot-high telephone pole, frozen with fear. Encouraged by her classmates' cheers, she mustered the courage to jump, missing the bar but embracing the experience. This moment set the tone for her high school years, teaching her to leap into new challenges with confidence and enthusiasm.

Reflecting on her high school years, Isabelle wishes she had understood the importance of networking and involvement from the start. Her active participation in Student Government, Prom Committee, and athletics enriched her high school experience and equipped her with valuable life skills. Networking opportunities through Corporate Work Study breakfasts and luncheons, as well as connections made at her CWSP jobs, proved invaluable. These experiences prepared her for college and beyond, teaching her the significance of building relationships and leveraging them for professional growth. Isabelle also learned the importance of resilience, realizing that failure is a natural part of the journey and a stepping stone to success.

One of Isabelle’s most cherished work-study experiences was at the Colorado House of Representatives, where her supervisor, Leon Brandi, played a pivotal role in her professional development. Working at the House for two years, Isabelle had the opportunity to give tours and interact with school groups. Initially nervous and unsure, she gradually gained confidence and developed excellent presentation skills. Leon’s guidance and encouragement helped Isabelle transform into a poised and effective communicator, a skill she continues to utilize in her professional life.

After graduating from Arrupe, Isabelle received several scholarships, including the Cristo Rey Scholarship, the FLEOA Scholarship, and the Greenhouse Scholars Class of 2024. These accolades enabled her to attend Loyola University Chicago, where she excelled. Isabelle served on the Executive Board of the Cristo Rey Scholars Organization, held leadership roles in various student organizations, and worked as a Peer Advisor for first-year students. Her involvement extended to internships at Greenhouse Scholars and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, where she honed her skills in marketing, events, and advocacy.

Isabelle’s college journey also included studying abroad in London, England, through Fordham University. This experience broadened her horizons and allowed her to travel to several countries, enriching her global perspective. Her academic achievements culminated in graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration in International Business. Now, back home in Colorado, Isabelle is actively seeking employment in marketing, human resources management, and analytics, primarily in Chicago, but also considering opportunities in Washington D.C. and Portland, OR.

Looking ahead, Isabelle embraces the uncertainty of the next chapter of her life with optimism. She is eager to start her professional career in a new city. Isabelle’s experiences at Arrupe Jesuit have prepared her well for this journey, instilling in her a strong sense of purpose and community.

Isabelle fondly remembers several faculty and staff members at Arrupe who were instrumental in her growth. Mr. Graham, her chemistry teacher and Kairos Leader, inspired her love for science and encouraged her to explore new interests. Mrs. Fuchs, her English teacher, ignited her passion for literature. Mr. Ladd, who introduced her to Ignatian Reflection and served as a mentor in sports, exemplified the spirit of being a “man for others.” Lastly, Fr. Fryer provided unwavering support and guidance, helping Isabelle navigate the challenges of high school and grow in her faith.

Isabelle Trujillo’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of education and community. Her time at Arrupe Jesuit High School laid a strong foundation for her academic and professional success.

Attending Arrupe Jesuit High School profoundly impacted Isabelle’s life. Beyond building a strong resume, Arrupe taught her to embrace her identity and to make waves.
